2012 Inscapes and Landscapes, Sheila Martin

Joann Gilles paints breathtaking landscapes whose vast skies seemingly span eternity.  She captures light in all its moods from blindingly brilliant to ominous and lurking.
Below the horizon line, pure energy put to color and shape plays out the drama of waterfall or rocky crag or ancient riverbed.  They are compelling, gutsy, and bold.

In this most recent body of work, reds, oranges, burgundies, and yellows heat up the canvasses and set them in a world apart.  Where they are, we want to go...to feel, smell, hear that color-energy.
